The Institute of Finance (IFIN) coordinates the research and training activities in financial disciplines at the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the Università della Svizzera italiana. Founded in 1999, it is part of the Swiss Finance Institute and of the Swiss research network FINRISK. It offers Bachelor's, Master's and PhD programs.

IFIN is committed to pursue excellence in research and teaching according to international standards. IFIN faculty members consistently publish their research in leading scholarly journals. Main areas of research include derivatives pricing and volatility modeling, IPOs and analysts' behavior, asset pricing under non-standard preferences, financial econometrics, liquidity and institutional investors, corporate governance, and real estate.

The Università della Svizzera italiana is committed to financial education in Ticino. The importance of the financial area in the cantonal economy motivates the mission of the Institute: to develop research in quantitative and institutional themes of financial markets, collaborating with other universities and financial institutions.
